International Dental Student Mobility of DDS Students (Bilingual Program)

The program provide valuable learning opportunities for students in the (Bilingual Program) at Thammasat University.

Recently, Ms. Manchuporn Pariwattanasak (Mind), a sixth-year dental student, participated in a two-week exchange program at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Brescia, Italy, together with four fellow students.

This initiative represents the fourth cohort of students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, to participate in an international professional exchange program abroad.

What Did You Learn from Studying at an International Institution?

This experience significantly broadened my perspective on dental education. Exposure to a different educational system provided valuable insights into alternative approaches to teaching and learning.

At the University of Brescia, students are encouraged to think independently and take greater responsibility for clinical decision-making. I believe this approach helps students develop confidence and competence in patient management.

What Differences Did You Notice Compared with Studying in Thailand?

Although my stay was relatively short, I observed several interesting differences.

At the University of Brescia, students participate in an overnight emergency shift system, which provides valuable hands-on experience in managing emergency cases.

Clinical training requirements also differ from those in Thailand. Each educational system has its own strengths, and it is difficult to determine which is superior.

Another notable difference is that students begin clinical exposure earlier. From their third year onward, they work as assistants to senior students, allowing them to gain practical experience and build confidence in clinical settings over time.

What Impressed You Most During This Exchange Program?

What impressed me most was the friendliness and supportiveness of both faculty members and fellow students.

I also had opportunities to observe discussions of complex clinical cases involving professors from various specialties.

Although language barriers occasionally arose, everyone at the University of Brescia made genuine efforts to communicate and share knowledge.

This experience broadened my horizons and introduced me to new possibilities for future academic and professional development, including opportunities for postgraduate study abroad.

What Advice Would You Give to Current Dental Students?

I encourage students to remain patient, resilient, and open-minded throughout their academic journey.

It is equally important to maintain a healthy balance between study and personal well-being. Dental education can be demanding, but perseverance and self-care are essential for long-term success.

Whenever challenges arise, do not hesitate to seek guidance from your professors, mentors, and peers.

Six years pass more quickly than you might expect. Make the most of every opportunity to gain knowledge, develop clinical skills, and grow both professionally and personally.

I wish all future dental students success in their journey.

Preparing Future Dentists Through Global Experiences

Mind's international exchange experience demonstrates the many benefits that students in the Bilingual Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Program at Thammasat University can gain through global exposure.

Experiencing different educational systems and clinical practices not only enhances professional knowledge but also strengthens adaptability, intercultural communication skills, and professional confidence. Such experiences also foster international networks that may contribute to future academic and career opportunities.

The Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, is committed to developing globally competent dental professionals by providing students with meaningful international learning experiences. These opportunities prepare graduates to become future-ready dentists who can confidently embrace challenges in an increasingly globalized profession.
