The Bilingual Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University provides students with a strong academic foundation while opening pathways to international learning and professional opportunities. Through an innovative curriculum and global engagement, the program prepares future dentists to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Beyond clinical competence, proficiency in English enhances academic achievement and prepares students for professional practice in an increasingly globalized healthcare environment.
The Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, recognizes the importance of preparing future dentists who can communicate effectively in both Thai and English. To this end, the Bilingual Program was developed to prepare students for academic excellence and professional opportunities at the international level. The curriculum is structured progressively across six years as follows:
During the first two years, students complete foundational medical science courses at the Chulabhorn International College of Medicine (CICM), with English serving as the primary language of instruction. This approach enables students to develop familiarity with medical and scientific terminology from the outset while building a strong foundation for engaging with international textbooks, research literature, and academic resources.
During Years 3–6, students undertake professional dental and clinical training in Thai, ensuring comprehensive preparation for the Thai National Dental Licensure Examination. At the same time, this training helps them develop professional communication skills with patients and readiness for clinical practice within the Thai healthcare system.
Beyond strong academic and language training, the program provides students with access to advanced tools and technologies for developing clinical skills. Hands-on practice with real patients further strengthens their competence and confidence as future dentists.
Throughout the six-year curriculum, students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required for modern dental practice. A hallmark of the Bilingual DDS Program is its strong international dimension, offering students opportunities to participate in academic conferences, clinical observership and collaborative learning experiences with partner institutions around the world. These opportunities broaden students’ horizons, expose them to diverse educational and healthcare systems, foster intercultural understanding, and facilitate the development of professional networks across the global dental community. Through engagement with institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, Canada, the United States, and Europe, students gain valuable international experience and develop the global perspective necessary to thrive in the evolving landscape of dentistry.
The Bilingual Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Program is designed for students and families seeking a comprehensive dental education that goes beyond traditional approaches. The program not only provides rigorous academic training and professional competencies but also develops strong proficiency in both Thai and English. With this foundation, graduates are well prepared for the Thai National Dental Licensure Examination while gaining the confidence and communication skills needed to pursue international academic and professional opportunities.
This program is ideal for students who aspire to become dentists while developing advanced English proficiency. From the first year onward, students are immersed in academic terminology and coursework delivered in English, enabling them to confidently read international textbooks, engage with scientific literature, write research papers, and communicate effectively in global academic and professional settings.
The Bilingual DDS Program begins with English-medium instruction during the preclinical years (Years 1–2) and gradually transitions to Thai-language instruction during the clinical years (Years 3–6). This integrated approach ensures that students are fully prepared for the Thai National Dental Licensure Examination while developing the communication skills necessary for effective patient care in real clinical settings.
The Bilingual DDS Program serves as a gateway to international opportunities through internation conferences participation, student mobility program , and overseas collaborations. These experiences not only broaden students’ perspectives but also help them develop intercultural competence and build valuable global professional networks that support future careers and postgraduate study opportunities abroad.
